Abstract [en]

The Indian Ocean Region has become the center of one of the most important maritimerivalries of our age. With a large percentage of global trade and maritime traffic enteringinto the region, it has quickly become a flash point for a brewing power competitionbetween India and China. This paper will seek to analyze aspects of both India and China inan attempt to understand possible scenarios for the Indian Ocean Region in the future, andhow that will affect the security of the region as a whole. This work has been divided intoseveral sections aimed at examining the diplomatic, economic, and military strength of bothChina and India in relation to the IOR. Following this examination, several differentpossible scenarios are given as to what might possibly happen based on the informationacquired.
