The voices from Rosengård : A qualitative study that illustrates the perception that some residents in Rosengård have on their residental area and their perception on how the media portrays a bad image of the district. (English)
Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study is to illuminate how some residents in Rosengård experience their residental area and what they think about the medias negative portrayal on the district. In total eleven people took part in this study.

What do the participants in the study think and feel about their neighbourhood? And how do the participants from Rosengård experience the presentation in the media of their residential area? For the questions to be answerd I made a qualitative study that consisted of interviewing some people from Rosengård. The people that I interviewed lives in Rosengård and have lived there in more than three years. The age group that I choosed is people from 18 and above. To analyze my empirical material I used three theories: Loïc J.D Waquants territorial stigmatization, Erving Goffmans stigma and agenda-setting theory.

The result of the interviews is that the participants from Rosengård feels a great sense of security, fellowship and belonging in their residental area. The inhabitants that took part in the interviews thrive very well in Rosengård. The participants had divided perceptions of the media's negative portrayal, however, the majority of the interviewees did not like the media's portrayal of the area. They believe that the media exaggerates in reporting the things that happen in Rosengård especially the crimes that happens there. Finally, I came to the conclusion that the interviewed persons from Rosengård experienced negative reactions when they mention their residential address.
