Abstract [en]
Background: Although breastfeeding is to be considered an indicator for health that needs to be protected, promoted, and supported the breastfeeding rate is declining.
Purpose: Thus, the purpose of this study was to map the scientific literature by a systematic review, to describe women’s experience of breastfeeding.
Method: The study was designed as a systematic literature review with searches conducted in CINAHL, PsycINFO and PubMed.
Results: A total of eight studies were included in the meta-synthesis of this review.
Conclusion: The mapping of the literature resulted in the identification of three main themes: emotional stressors, physical stressors, and external stressors. In addition, that difficulties tend to associate breastfeeding per se with negative experiences.
