Abstract [en]

Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the accuracy of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and intraoral scanning (IOS) in measuring thickness and volume of the peri-implant bone plate.

Material and method: Twelve dental implants (Astra tech®) were placed in twelve sheep mandible jaw halves. The implants were scanned with CBCT, IOS and micro CT as a gold standard (GS). The linear and volumetric measurements of the peri-implant bone plates were performed using 3D Slicer software program. 

Results: The linear and volumetric measurements showed no statistically significant difference between CBCT and IOS (P > 0.05). CBCT volumetric measurements were on average underestimated in comparison with GS (P < 0.05). 

Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, we can conclude that both methods CBCT and IOS have adequate accuracy to be used clinically to detect peri-implant bone thickness. IOS as a measuring method has shown good trueness, but reduced precision because of the considerable variation. On the other hand, CBCT has shown good trueness as well as better precision in comparison with IOS.

Sammanfattning

Syfte: Att utvärdera tillförlitligheten av cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) och intraoral scanning (IOS) vid mätning av tjockleken och volymen på den peri-implantära benplattan.

Material och metod: Tolv dentala implantat (Astra tech®) placerades i tolv fårkäkhalvor. Implantaten skannades med CBCT, IOS och micro CT som en gold standard (GS). De linjära och volymetriska mätningarna av peri-implantära benplattorna utfördes med hjälp av 3D Slicer-programvaran.

Resultat: Linjära och volymetriska mätningar visade ingen statistiskt signifikant skillnad mellan CBCT och IOS (P > 0,05). CBCT-volymmätningar undervärderades i genomsnitt i jämförelse med GS (P < 0,05).

Slutsats: Inom begränsningarna för denna studie kan vi dra slutsatsen att båda metoderna CBCT och IOS har tillräcklig tillförlitlighet för att kunna användas kliniskt för att detektera peri-implantära bentjockleken. IOS som mätmetod har visat god riktighet, men minskad precision på grund av den stora variationen. Å andra sidan har CBCT visat god riktighet och bättre precision jämfört med IOS.
