Bakgrund: Den psykiska ohälsan har ökat i Sverige vilket har skapat påfrestningar på hälso-och sjukvårdssystemet i bland annat Skåne. Samtidigt finns bristande kunskap om psykisk ohälsa i prehospital akutvård vilket har lett till införandet av prehospital akut psykiatri (PAP-enheten) i olika delar av Skåne. Syftet med studien var att beskriva upplevelsen av PAP- enheten bland sjuksköterskor som arbetar i psykiatrisk akutverksamhet. Metod: Kvalitativ studie användes där data samlades in genom semistrukturerade intervjuer. Intervjuerna bestod av en minifokusgrupp med tre deltagare och tre individuella intervjuer. Samtliga deltagare var psykiatrisjuksköterskor som arbetar på den psykiatriska akutmottagningen i Malmö eller parallellt i PAP-enheten. Data har sedan bearbetats och analyserats genom kvalitativ innehållsanalys enligt Burnad (1996). Resultat: Det framkom två huvudkategorier; Betydelsen av att vara ett team och Betydelsen av psykiatrisk kompetens i prehospital akutvård. Huvudkategorierna mynnade ut i fyra underkategorier: Känsla av samhörighet, känsla av stöd, vikten av specialistkompetens och upplevelser av förbättrad psykiatrisk vårdprocess. Slutsats: Studien ger utökad kunskap om vikten av interpersonella relationer och psykiatrisjuksköterskans kompetens i prehospitalt omhändertagande av personer med psykisk ohälsa. Dessa faktorer upplevs tillsammans bidra till förbättrad prehospital psykiatrisk akutvård i Malmö. 

Background: There is an increase in Mental illness in Sweden and this has also created difficulties in the health care system in Scania. Simultaneously, there is lack of knowledge regarding mental illness in prehospital emergency care which led to the establishment of prehospital emergency psychiatric unit (PAP-unit) in different parts of Scania. The Aim of this study was to describe experiences of the prehospital emergency psychiatry unit among nurses working in psychiatric emergency care units. Method: A qualitative study was used, and data was collected through semi structured interviews. The interviews consist of a mini focus group with three participants and three individual interviews. All the participants were mental health nurses who worked in the psychiatric emergency unit in Malmö or parallel in the prehospital emergency psychiatric unit. The data was then processed and analysed through qualitative content analysis according to Burnard (1996). Result: Two main categories emerged; The importance of belonging to a team and the importance of psychiatric competence in prehospital emergency care. The main categories resulted in four subcategories: Sense of belonging, sense of support, importance of specialist competence and experiences of improved psychiatric care process. Conclusion: The study provides increased knowledge in the importance of interpersonal relationships and the mental health nurse's competence in prehospital care for people with mental illness. Thereby, contributing to the improvement of prehospital psychiatric emergency care in Malmö.
