Cooperative learning and students’ motivation and achievements in mathematics (English)
Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to get knowledge about how cooperative learning could increase students’ achievements and motivations within the subject of mathematics, and what requirements that needs to be fulfilled for this to be successful. The method used is a literature search, in order to establish an overview of the current state of knowledge within the relevant problem area. The overall result showed that there seems to be a clear positive correlation between teaching with a cooperative learning method and increased achievements and improved motivation within the subject of mathematics. This is because the students work together on an equal level to achieve a common goal. However, this is e.g. subject to the teacher having planned well and being familiar with the cooperative teaching models. Another relevant aspect is that the students must have a certain level of communication skills, are kept engaged and have been clearly informed of what is expected of them, both individually and from the group.
