Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

My examination concentrate on the student’s attitudes, experiences and understanding of the teaching in school. I also examinated what the students consider to be the best that can be done to get more motivation for approved grades in mathematics. The examination also tries to explain the special teachers function in the work with mathematics. Qualitative interviews with two groups of student were done. The pupils in my examination had experiences of a traditional mathematic education with calculation, reviews on the board and test. The students consider that mathematics, as a subject was interesting and very important. After all they were fairly negative to the subject because of the tests and they were not satisfied with their achievements. Researchers agrees that self-esteem and faith to your ability is important for knowledge development in mathematics. For the students the grades were an anxiety and stress element, in both groups. The teacher showed to be important for the pupils in the groups. Earlier research shows that education affects the student’s attitudes, self-esteem and achievements in mathematics. The students consider that a good math teacher explain understandable and give enough with time and help those who need extra support.
