Abstract [en]

This research synthesis aims to gain a greater understanding of the concept intercultural competence in the context of secondary education. In order to provide an answer to the research question according to current research, how can teachers of English on a secondary level enhance intercultural teaching?, research from the field of interculturality is included and explored. The focus is on strategies and methods promoted by researchers as well as on the potential challenges that could lie ahead. The findings suggest that there are three main strategies and methods to keep in mind- focus on internal processes, inclusive tasks, and authentic encounters. Respectively, two main challenges are described by current research- attitudes and a lack of knowledge.
