Abstract [en]

Cooperative learning and intrinsic motivation are two common concepts in mathematics education. The aim of the following study is to examine the relation between these two concepts. In order to do so, two questions have been constructed. One of the questions aims to examine the concept intrinsic motivation, foremost in relation to mathematics. The second question builds on the first question and aims to explore the concept of cooperative learning and how this, in mathematics education, impact students` intrinsic motivation. The focus is on students between the age of five and ten years. The method of this study was to examine scientific articles and studies in the area of the aim of the study. The scientific articles have foremost been found using different databases. The result of the study show that intrinsic motivation exists inside the individual but can be affected by the role of teacher or classroom. In cooperative learning, students work together in groups to help each other learn. Some of the studies examined show that cooperative learning might have a positive effect on intrinsic motivation although the result is not clear.
