This essay aims at investigating how students can write historical statements using sources. First, I looked at the previous research that has been done in this area, and I found that teaching in Swedish schools that deals with source criticism is often of an empirical nature. The previous research also shows that students can build historical empathy through visual sources. At the same time, teachers should be careful in this area so that students understand what historical empathy means. The survey was conducted on six students living in all of Sweden. These responded to a number of questions and in order to answer these questions they had five different sources to use. In my result, I find that students could seek answers to historical questions through the sources but applied their own norms and values on the past.
