Abstract [sv]

Bujupi, L & Nasr, N. Skolkuratorer – how do you do? Examensarbete i socialt arbete 15 högskolepoäng.

Abstract [en]

Bujupi, L & Nasr, N, School counsellors – how do you do? A study in how school counsellors work in professional conversations with students. Degree project in social work 15 credits. Malmö university: Faculty of health and society, Department of social work, 2018. How do school counsellors work in professional conversations with students? The study is based on eleven qualitative semistructured interviews with school counsellors at elementary schools. The purpose of the study is to learn how school counsellors work in professional conversation with students. A large part of a school counsellors work consists of conversations, which plays a crucial part in social work at schools. Our study shows that counselling of students varies greatly among different school counsellors. This discrepancy is probably secondary to the considerable room of action that exists because of vague laws and governing documents. But the differences between counsellors can also be understood as a result of the fragmented relation between social work and evidence. Our empirical studies have been analyzed using Foucault's concept of panopticism, as well as conduct of conduct. Our study shows that school counsellors do as they choose when talking to students, some use special methods that they have brought from previous work experience, while others see themselves as the main tool in the conversation. However, some counsellors recognized the great variance within the profession is less adequate, mainly because it reflects a lack of transparency and interest from coworkers, as well as a lack of evaluations and controls of school counsellor´s ways of working in professional conversation with students.
