Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Endoscopic procedures have increased in all ages, particularly among adults. In this report endoscopic procedures are referred to gastroscopy and coloskopy. The aim of this literature review was to examine the needs for nursing in patients undergoing endoscopic procedures. The method was a literature review based on 12 scientific studies of which one is a case report. The studies were reviewed and assessed. Analyse of the articles resulted in two categories, psychological experiences and physiological factors, which can affect the nursing interventions. Age, sex, gag reflex, pain, anxiety / discomfort, sedation and the influence of information can affect the patient experience of endoscopic procedures. Among other things it appears that women and younger people might benefit more from sedation and that the need for sedation decreases by age. Support from nurses was an important factor.
