Studiens syfte var att undersöka nyutbildade sjuksköterskors upplevelse av sin kompetensutveckling inom arbetsteknik och arbetsledning efter genomfört introduktionsprogram, två områden som vårdinrättningarna enligt Socialstyrelsens (2002) utredning upplevde att nyutbildade sjuksköterskor hade bristande kompetens i. Sex sjuksköterskor som deltagit i introduktionsprogrammet vid Ystad lasarett intervjuades, för att få klarhet i om upplevelsen av kompetensutvecklingen hade förändrats och i så fall vilka delar i programmet som bidragit till utvecklingen. Metoden innehållsanalys användes för att klargöra resultatet och vad som underlättat kompetensutvecklingen. Resultatet visade att samtliga sjuksköterskor upplevde en kompetensutveckling inom arbetsteknik och arbetsledning. Fyra kategorier stärkte kompetensutvecklingen; reflektion och tid, stöd, kunskap och att växa in i yrkesrollen. Ett välplanerat introduktionsprogram underlättar således kompetensutvecklingen och bidrar därmed till patientsäkerheten. Resultatet indikerar också att en fortsatt handledning hade varit till gagn för sjuksköterskors fortsatta kompetensutveckling inom yrket.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to explore how newly graduated nurses experienced their competence development regarding technical skills and leadership, two areas that have been criticized by health care institutions according to an investigation made by the National Swedish Board of Health and Welfare (2002). Six nurses who participated in an introduction programme at Ystad Hospital were interviewed to gain insight if their experienced competence had increased and from what in the programme. Content analysis was used to interpret the material. The result showed that all interviewed nurses experienced an increase in competence within technical skills and leadership. Four categories were used; reflection and time, support, knowledge, and professional growth. A well planned introduction programme contributes to the competence development and thereby to the safety and security of the patient. The result also indicated that clinical supervision could gain the continuous competence development within the profession.
