Bakgrund: Kvarliggande urinkateter ar en behandlingsmetod som anvands vid flera olika sjukdomstillstånd. Komplikationer som patienten kan utsattas för ar bland annat kateterblockage, urinvagsinfektion och urinlackage. Sjuksköterskor ser på patienters anvandning av urinkateter ur olika synvinklar dar det både uppfattas som ett hjalpmedel och något som gör skada. Syfte: Syftet med denna litteraturstudie ar att belysa hur patienter med kvarliggande urinkateter upplever anvandningen samt insattning och byten. Metod: Examensarbetet har genomförts som litteraturstudie med en kvalitativ ansats. Tio artiklar från databaserna CINAHL och PubMed inkluderades i studien och det genomfördes en kvalitetsgranskning och dataanalys av det insamlade materialet. Resultat: De tio empiriska studierna framhavde fyra huvudteman: Mötena med vården, Kanslor relaterat till urinkatetern, Stöd från omgivningen samt Urinkateterns påverkan i vardagen. Resultatet genererade aven sju subteman som redovisas under de olika huvudtemana. Patienter belyste att det fanns brister i vårdpersonalens bemötande och vikt lades vid god tillganglighet. Patienterna i studierna såg på sin urinkateter ur både positiva och negativa synvinklar. Koppling till urinkateterns funktion, obehag och eventuella komplikationer sågs ha inverkan på hur patienten upplevde sin urinkateter. Samtal och exponering av urinkatetern upplevdes av patienterna som besvarande och medförde för vissa en begransning i vardagen. Sexualitet relaterat till anvandningen av urinkateter var något som vissa patienter belyste som ett område med förbattringsmöjlighet. Konklusion: För att minska komplikationer och lidande ar det av vikt att efterstrava god kommunikation och information. Detta ar två centrala begrepp som har stor betydelse för patienters upplevelse av anvandning, byten samt insattning av kvarliggande urinkateter och ökar förutsattningarna för en personcentrerad vård.

Background: indwelling urinary catheter is a treatment method that is used for several different diseases. Complications that patients may be exposed to are catheter blockage, urinary tract infection and urinary leakage. Nurses look at patients' use of urinary catheters from different angles where it is perceived as an aid or something that causes harm. Aim: The purpose of this literature study is to illustrate how patients with indwelling urinary catheter experience the use as well as insertion and replacement. Method: the degree project has been conducted as a literature study with a qualitative approach. After the collection of the final ten articles from CINAHL and PubMed, quality review and data analysis of the collected material was carried out. Results: the ten studies highlighted four main themes: The meeting with the healthcare, Feelings Related to the Urinary Catheter, Aid from the Environment and The urinary catheters effect on everyday life. The result also generated seven subthemes that are reported under the different main themes. Patients highlighted that there were deficiencies in the treatment from healthcare professionals and that emphasis was placed on good accessibility of care. Patients in the studies looked at their urinary catheters from both positive and negative angles. The urinary catheters function, discomfort and possible complications were seen to have an effect on how the patient looked at their urinary catheter. Conversation and exposure of the urinary catheter caused discomfort to the patients and led to some limitation in everyday life. Conversations about sexuality related to catheter use were something that some patients found as an area needing improvement in healthcare. Conclusion: In order to reduce complications and suffering, it is important to strive for good communication and information. These are two key concepts that are of great importance to the patient's experience of use, replacement and insertion of indwelling urinary catheter and increase the basis for a person-centered care.
