Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Fetma är ett folkhälsoproblem. Forskning visar att patienter med fetma upplever stigmatisering och diskriminering i vården relaterat till deras vikt. Syfte: Att beskriva hur patienter med fetma upplever bemötandet i vården som stigmatiserande. Metod: Litteraturstudien innefattande elva artiklar av kvalitativ ansats, hämtade från databaserna CINAHL och PubMed, som analyserats med Granheim & Lundmans rekommendationer för tematisk innehållsanalys. Resultat: Resultatet presenteras i tre teman; i) Att inte tas på allvar ii) Att inte bli respekterad iii) Att förvänta sig stigma. Konklusion: God vård bygger på ett respektfullt bemötande där hänsyn tas till individens självbestämmande och integritet.

Abstract [en]

Bakground: Obesity is a public health problem. Research shows that obese patients experience stigmatization and discrimination in healthcare related to their weight. Aim: To describe how obese patients experience attitudes in healthcare as stigmatizing. Method: Literature review consisting of eleven articles of qualitative approach, drawn from the databases CINAHL and PubMed, analyzed with Granheim & Lundmans’ recommendations for thematic content analysis. Findings: The result is presented as three themes; i) Not being taken seriously ii) Not being respected iii) Anticipation of stigma. Conclusion: Good care builds on respectful attitudes with regard to the individuals’ autonomy and integrity.
