Bakgrund: Antalet cancerfall ökar varje år och de förbättrade behandlingsmetoderna bidrar till att fler överlever. Biverkningarna som cancerbehandlingarna ger är däremot inte helt okomplicerade. Biverkningar som funktionsförändringar, utseendeförändringar och trötthet är faktorer som kan leda till att sexualiteten och den intima relationen påverkas negativt. Syfte: Syftet är att undersöka upplevelsen av den förändrade sexualiteten efter genomgången cancerbehandling. Metod: Litteraturstudie, innehållsanalys av tio studier med kvalitativ ansats. Resultat: Fyra teman: kroppsliga förändringar, psykisk påverkan i förhållande till sexualiteten, påverkan på relationer och behovet av information identifierades. Slutsats: De cancerdrabbade upplevde att de förlorat sin gamla sexualitet och sexuella intimitet i samband med sjukdomen. Acceptans av den nya situationen och stöttning från partnern gjorde att personerna fick en bättre självkänsla och upplevde en känsla av att intimiteten blev starkare. De cancerdrabbade uttryckte ett ökat behov av att prata mer om hur deras sexualitet påverkats i samband med cancern och dess behandling.

Background: The number of cancer cases is increasing every year and the improved treatment methods contribute to more people surviving cancer. The side effects of cancer treatments is however not entirely straightforward . Side effects like changes in function , appearance changes and fatigue are factors which affect sexuality and intimate relationship negatively Aim: The purpose was to compile how sexual intimacy is affected for people who suffer from cancer. Method: Literature study , content analysis of ten studies with qualitative approach Results: Four themes: body changes, psychological impact in relation to sexuality, impact on relationships, the need of information were identified. Conclusion: The cancer sufferers felt that they lost their old sexuality and sexual intimacy associated with the disease. Acceptance of the new situation and the support from the partner meant that they had a better self-esteem and experienced that the feeling of intimacy became stronger. The cancer sufferers expressed an increased need of talking about how cancer had affected their sexuality and sexual intimacy.
