Abstract [sv]

The aim of the literature review was to investigate how relatives to a person suffering from dementia, in institution, experienced the nursing hom staff and the relation to them. The study was based on eight scientific articles. The result gave thirteen themes, that showed that relatives experienced the nursing home staff having a hard work under pressure. They were nice but without knowledge. The relatives experienced that the nursing home staff didn´t see or hear them and gave no confidence. Some of them experienced that the nursing home staff was distant and the communication was limited. The experienced as well the nursing home staff not to allow them to take part in the nursing. Further on the relatives described that they experienced the relation with the nursing home staff as conventional, carative, competitive or collarborative. The conclusion was that the nursing home staff should try to give time, make contact actively, have an open communication and listen actively to the relatives. The nursing home staff should allow the relatives to take part in the nursing and regularly invite them to meetings and by that create a good relation with the relatives.

Abstract [en]

Syftet med litteraturstudien var att undersöka hur närstående till en person med demenssjukdom, upplevde vårdpersonalen och relationen till dem. Studien baseras på åtta vetenskapliga artiklar. Resultatet blev tretton teman, som visade att närstående upplevde att vårdpersonalen hade ett tungt och slitsamt arbete med en pressad arbetssituation. De upplevdes vara trevliga, men saknade kunskap. Närstående upplevde att vårdpersonalen inte såg och hörde dem och ingav inget förtroende. En del upplevde att vårdpersonalen var avståndstagande och att kommunikationen var begränsad. De upplevde även att vårdpersonalen inte gjorde de delaktiga i omvårdnaden. Vidare beskrev närstående att de upplevde relationen med vårdpersonalen som konventionell, vårdande, konkurrerande eller som en samarbetsrelation. Slutsatsen blev att vårdpersonalen bör avsätta tid, aktivt ta kontakt, skapa en öppen kommunikation och lyssna aktivt på närstående. Vårdpersonalen bör även arbeta för att göra närstående delaktiga i vården och kontinuerligt inbjuda dem till möten och därigenom skapa en bra relation med närstående.
