Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The objective of this qualitative study is to find out about school staff`s experiences at ten different schools in Malmö regarding the nine themes of Allergy Round in School. The increased prevalence of asthma and allergy has during the last decades been too rapid to only be explained as caused by genetical changes. The fast increase also has to do with changes in the physical environment and lifestyles, either through increased contact with allergens or through less contact with factors that previously protected individuals from developing allergy. As a response to this a multisectoral approach dealing with allergy issues has been initiated in Malmö. Through this cooperation schools in Malmö have been given the opportunity to join a project, aiming at strengthening the knowledge of asthma and allergy as well as to update their control regarding the factors Allergy Round in School deals with. Through Miljöförvaltningen in Malmö we have been given the task of introducing and implementing the Allergy Round in School in ten different schools in Malmö, though interviews with school staff. The tool we have used, Allergy Round in School, is a checklist of nine themes health, indoor environment, ventilation, furred animals, perfume, plants, smoking, food and sanitary care. The results from the interviews were analyzed according to the nine themes and are in this study accounted for both through theme by theme as well as through school by school. The results show that there is more to do at the schools when it comes to preventive methods of asthma and allergy.
