Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The current study has, through semi-structured interviews with refugees aimed at from refugees perspective identify methodological barriers in refugee studies. The importance of studies relating to this target group is constantly increasing, especially considering the increased migration flows. Within the literature, the methodological barriers are divided into three categories, which are structural, individual and institutional barriers. In this study, only the first two have been treated. The theory of social capital has been used as a theoretical framework, as it demonstrates the importance of social relations and social trust in the improvement of social structure. The result generated in this study has indicated a moderate degree of consistency among the respondents, where there is consensus that the most appropriate approach to reaching out to them is through an organization. Knowledge about culture has been emphasized as important, while other factors such as gender, age and origin have not been as decisive factors for the willingness to participate in a research context. There were different opinions regarding the language skills the interviewer should have, where it is crucial for one of the respondents, but not for the other. Finally, there was consensus that some issues were not appropriate to ask.
