Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: The majority of nursing students perceive themselves as stressed during their clinical placements, which can lead to decreased academic performance, depression and worsened patient care. Aim: The aim of the literature review was to describe factors influencing nursing students stress during clinical placements. Method: A literature review based on twelve scientific articles with quantitative method gathered from the CINAHL, PubMed and PsycINFO databases. The articles quality was examined and the articles findings were compiled based on the stress factors who were the most stressful. Results: Many different stress factors influences nursing students stress during clinical placements. A total of five main stress factor categories that were the most frequently occurring have been identified: students competence and not feeling good enough; meeting and caring for the patient; personal and teachers; gender; school year and experience. Conclusion: Factors influencing stress in nursing students are many and vary a lot in different studies. Some stress factors were reoccurring in all studies. Schools and clinical wards could benefit from available research to better improve nursing students stress experiences during clinical placements.
