Epilepsi är en sjukdom som medför en rad olika konsekvenser i det dagliga livet. Det är viktigt att allmänsjuksköterskan inte enbart har kunskap om sjukdomen i sig, utan även känner till de konsekvenser som sjukdomen kan innebära för den enskilda individen. Syftet med föreliggande litteraturstudie var att undersöka vilka svårigheter personer med epilepsi kan uppleva i sitt dagliga liv samt belysa hur allmänsjuksköterskan på ett bra och professionellt sätt skall kunna bemöta personer med epilepsi och ta fram de individuella resurser individen besitter. Metoden som använts är evidensbaserad metod. Litteraturstudien bygger på fjorton vetenskapliga artiklar som granskats enligt Carlsson & Eimans (2003) bedömningsmall. Som teoretisk referensram har Carnevali (1999) använts. Resultatet redogör för en mängd psykosociala problem som epilepsi leder till. Bl a framkommer det att personer med epilepsi har svårare för att få arbete och är arbetslösa i högre grad än personer utan epilepsi, att sjukdomen hindrar dem i många av deras dagliga sociala och fysiska aktiviteter, att depression och oro är vanligare hos personer med epilepsi samt att endast en liten del anser att de har tillräckligt med kunskap om sin sjukdom. Slutsatsen som kan dras utifrån resultatet är att de områden i det dagliga livet som berörs av sjukdomen är av sådan vikt att de i hög grad påverkar individens livskvalitet.

Epilepsy is a disease that carries with it a number of different consequences in daily life. It is important that the nurse doesn’t only have knowledge of the disease itself, but is also aware of the consequences the individual can experience. The aim of this literature review is to examine the difficulties people with epilepsy experience in daily life and illustrate how the nurse in a skilled and professional way, can treat people with epilepsy and extract the resources the individual possess. The method that has been used is an evidence based method. This literature review is based on fourteen scientific articles that have been quality rated using Carlsson & Eimans (2003) ratingscale. As a theoretic frame of reference Carnevali (1999) has been used. The result describes a number of psychosocial problems that epilepsy leads to. Among other things the result shows that people with epilepsy have more difficulty getting employment and are unemployed in a higher degree than people without epilepsy. It shows too that the disease restrains them in many of their daily social and physical activities and that depression and anxiety is more common in people with epilepsy. Also that only a few of those with epilepsy consider that they have enough knowledge about their disease. Conclusions that can be made based upon the result are that spheres in daily life that are affected by the disease, are of such importance that they in a high degree af-fect the individuals’ quality of life.
