Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: rheumatoid arthritis is a disease controlled by immunological reactions that cause joint damage with symptoms such as joint stiffness, fatigue, malaise and pain. According to previous research, fatigue and pain were especially reported to be the largest consequences of the disease. Objective: The objective of this study was to examine how adults with rheumatoid arthritis are affected by pain and fatigue. Method: the method of the literature review was inspired by seven steps described by Willman et al (2011) used to identify and assess relevant scientific literature. Searches were done in PubMed and Cinahl and after examination ten articles were selected for further analysis. Seven of them were of a qualitative approach and three were of quantitative approach. Results: after analysis of the articles four themes revealed which answered the objective - roles and relationships, activities of daily living, sleep and emotional impact. Conclusion: the results can improve nursing care due to deeper understanding of the affect fatigue and pain may have on the patient.
