Många patienter lider idag av flera sjukdomar och kan med andra ord anses vara multisjuka. Den vård och omvårdnad de får på sjukhusen klarar sällan av att möta alla deras behov utan är oftast inriktad på att vårda den primära orsaken till det aktuella vårdtillfället. Föreliggande studie syftar därför till att studera hur sjuksköterskor uppfattar genomförandet av en holistisk omvårdnad av patienter med multisjukdom utifrån frågeställningarna Vad innebär det och hur går det till att ge holistisk omvårdnad till patienter med multisjukdom? Med utgångspunkt i den fenomenografiska ansatsen har vi genom intervjuer försökt fånga sjuksköterskors uppfattningar av dessa frågor. Studien resulterade i ett utfallsrum bestående av tio beskrivningskategorier som beskriver att sjuksköterskor uppfattar att holistisk omvårdnad av patienter med multisjukdom är en omvårdnad som har en helhetssyn där patienten är i centrum. Denna omvårdnad kan uppnås om sjuksköterskorna arbetar för att anpassa omvårdnaden individuellt och samarbetar med andra. För att kunna göra detta måste flera förutsättningar skapas.

Today many patients experience multiple illnesses and can therefore be considered to suffer from comorbidity. The medical and nursing care in hospitals is rarely prepared to meet their needs and is often focused on curing the primary reason of admission. The purpose of this study was therefore to investigate how nurses understand the realization of holistic nursing of patients with comorbidity based on the following questions: What is holistic nursing of patients with comorbidity and how is it carried out? Through interviews on the basis of the phenomenographic approach we have tried to capture nurses understanding of these questions. The result of the study is an outcome space with ten categories of description that describes that nurses understand holistic nursing of patients with comorbidities as a nursing with a comprehensive view which is patient centered. This type of nursing can be achieved if the nurses strive for an individually adapted care and cooperate with others. To make this possible there are several conditions that has to be met.
