Bakgrund: Alkoholkonsumtionen har ökat!i Sverige och är idag en del av det sociala livet. Upptäckande och intervention vid alkoholproblem är viktigt både för individen och samhället. Dock är ämnet alkohol personligt och kan anses vara ett känsligt ämne att prata om inte bara för patienten men även för vårdpersonalen. Syfte: Syftet med denna litteraturstudie var att undersöka om läkare och sjuksköterskor upplevde att det fanns något som hindrade de från att engagera sig i upptäckande och intervention samt tala med patienter om deras alkoholvanor. Metod: Litteraturstudie som genomfördes genom granskningar av tio studier, 8 kvalitativa och 2 kvantitativa. Studierna hittades med hjälp av databaserna PsycINFO, CINAHL och PubMed. Resultat: Litteraturstudien kom fram till tre huvudteman som ansågs vara hinder vid upptäckande och intervention samt vid diskussioner om alkoholvanor. Dessa hinder var tidsbrist, rädsla för negativa reaktioner från patienten och otillräckliga kunskaper och riktlinjer. Tidsbrist visade sig vara den främsta orsaken till varför alkoholämnet inte togs upp samt att upptäckande och intervention inte skedde. Rädslan för att patienten skulle reagera negativt på frågor om alkohol eller att relationen med patienten skulle förstöras var ytterligare en anledning. Slutligen kände deltagarna att de saknade kunskap om hur och när de skulle fråga om alkoholvanor och hur intervention skulle genomföras.

Background: Alcohol consumption has increased!in Sweden and is today a part of the social life. Screening and intervention for alcohol problems is important both for the individual and for the society. However, the subject alcohol is private and can be considered a sensitive topic to discuss not only for the patient but also for the caregivers. Aim: The aim of this literature review was to examine whether doctors and nurses felt that there where obstacles preventing them from engaging in screening and intervention as well as discussing drinking habits with their patients. Method: Literature review that was conducted by analyzing ten studies, eight qualitative and two quantitative. Studies were found using the databases PsycINFO, CINAHL and PubMed. Result:!The literature review concluded three main themes that were considered obstacles at screening and intervention as well as in discussions about alcohol habits. These obstacles were lack of time, fear of negative reactions from the patient and lack of knowledge and guidelines. Lack of time was found to be the main reason why alcohol substance was not lifted and the reason for screening and intervention did not occur. The fear that the patient would react negatively to questions about alcohol or the relationship with the patient would come to an end was a further reason. Finally, participants felt that they lacked the knowledge of how and when to ask about drinking habits and how the intervention would be implemented.
