Bakgrund: Årligen drabbas cirka 7000 kvinnor i Sverige av bröstcancer. Detta innebär att 20-tal kvinnor erhåller en bröstcancerdiagnos varje dag, medan ett 40-tal män drabbas varje år i Sverige. Patienter reagerar olika på sin bröstcancerdiagnos och därmed är informationen som erbjuds till patienterna av betydelse, eftersom det hjälper dem att förbereda sig både fysiskt och psykiskt inför behandling. Syftet: Att identifiera bröstcancerpatienters informationsbehov i samband med behandling. Metod: En litteraturstudie med elva artiklar utfördes för att besvara syftet. Resultat: Innehållet i informationen som efterfrågas varierar mellan kön och ålder. Informationsgivandet är av betydelse för bröstcancerpatienter under behandlingsprocessen. Yngre kvinnor efterfrågar information om framtiden medan äldre vill ha information utifrån den behandling de befinner sig i. Män efterfrågar könsspecifik information anpassad för dem då det mesta som finns är anpassad för kvinnor. Slutsats: Informationsbehoven hos bröstcancerpatienter varierar bland annat beroende på ålder och kön. Således är det inte tillräckligt att dela ut generella informationsbroschyrer eller böcker för att täcka behoven. Sjuksköterskans uppgift är att identifiera varje individs behov individuellt och dessa ska förses på bästa sätt.

Background: Annually around 7000 women get diagnosed with breast cancer in Sweden. This means that around 20 women receive a breast cancer diagnose every day, while more than 40 men are affected annually in Sweden. Patients´ react differently when receiving a breast cancer diagnosis therefor information that is being offered to patient is of significant, because it help them prepare both physically and psychologically prior to treatment. Aim: To identify breast cancer patient’s information needs related to treatment. Method: A literature review of eleven articles was conducted to answer the aim of the study. Result: The information content varies between gender and age. Providing information during the treatment process is of significance. Younger women are asking for information about the future while older prefers information about the treatment they are in. Men are looking for gender-specific information appropriate for them when most of the information is appropriate for women. Conclusion: The information needs of breast cancer patients vary, depending on age and gender. Thus, it is not enough to distribute general information leaflets or books to cover the needs. Nurse's task is to identify each individual's needs individually and these must be provided in the best way.
