Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to illustrate how life changes for patients who go through an ostomy surgery. The method used for the study was a literature review which included both qualitative and quantitative articles. Ten articles were included and the results were presented under three headings; sexuality, psychologically and socially. The results showed that patients with an ostomy require a lot of information and support from people whom they are close to. The body image is very affected according to many of the studies. The results of the literature review might give the caring nurse an increased awareness of the requirement of information and support that could be given to the patients for a higher quality of care.
