Syftet med denna litteraturstudie var att beskriva om omvårdnads- dokumentation, enligt VIPS-modellen, underlättar, kvalitetssäkrar och stödjer sjuksköterskans omvårdnadsarbete. Det ska även belysa om sjuksköterskan har tillräklig kunskap om dokumentation enligt VIPS-modellen. En kritisk granskning av elva vetenskapliga artiklar resulterade i sju kategorier. Resultatet visar att sjuksköterskan anser att patientsäkerheten ökar, att VIPS-modellen kan bidra till tidsbesparing och underlättar för sjuksköterskan i omvårdnadsarbetet. Även andra yrkeskategorier kan dra nytta av sjuksköterskans dokumentation. Det som också framkom är att det är av största vikt att patientens omvårdnads- journal ständigt uppdateras. Ytterligare forskning behövs för att styrka huruvida sjuksköterskan kan använda omvårdnadsdokumentationen som ett stöd i omvårdnadsarbetet.

The aim of this litterature study was to describe if the Registered Nurse’s nursing documentation according to the VIPS-model facilitates, improves the quality and supports the nursing care for the Registered Nurse. It should also illuminate if the Registered Nurse has enough knowledge about documentation according to the VIPS-model. A critical scrutiny of eleven scientific articles resulted in seven categories. The result shows that the Registered Nurse thinks the patient security improves, the VIPS-model may contribute to timesaving and may also facilitate for the nurse in nursing care. Other caregivers can also benefit from the documentation made by the nurse. Another finding is the importance of continuously updating of the nursing care plan. Further studies are needed to strengthen how the Registered Nurse can use the nursing documentation as a support in nursing care.
