Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Patients suffering from severe chronic renal failure are often treated with hemodialysis several times a week. These patients often face a range of problems and may struggle to combat them. The nurse has an important role in identifying these problems in order to provide good support to these patients. The purpose of this literature review is to examine the stressors in patients treated with hemodialysis and the coping strategies they use. The method chosen was a literature study based on four qualitative and six quantitative scientific articles which were analyzed according to Friberg (2006). The results of the analysis generated the following seven themes: fluid and dietary restrictions, physical limitations, financial constraints, leisure constraints, vascular disorders, emotion-oriented coping and problem-oriented coping.
