Skolsköterskors erfarenheter av att arbeta med nyanlända elever

Abstract [sv]
Bakgrund: De senare åren har ett ökat antal nyanlända elever börjat i skolan. Merparten av eleverna är flyktingar eller är anhöriga till flyktingar. Den ökade andelen nyanlända elever har påverkat skolsköterskans arbete.
Syftet: Syftet har varit att undersöka skolsköterskors erfarenheter av att arbeta med nyanlända elever.
Metod: Kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer genomfördes med nio skolsköterskor i södra Sverige. Den valda analysmetoden var kvalitativ innehållsanalys.
Resultat: Tre övergripande kategorier sammanfattade data; 1) Från mottagande till basprogram, 2) Att arbeta med en utsatt grupp, och 3) Att arbeta med elever med en annan kultur och ett annat språk. Mottagandet av nyanlända elever var resurskrävande, vilket främst berodde på att eleverna inte hade följt barnhälsovårdens basprogram och var ofullständigt vaccinerade. Skolsköterskorna upplevde att deras arbete gick utanför yrkesrollen när de tog hand om de nyanlända elevernas olika behov. Skolsköterskorna upplevde även att de saknade kompetens kring elever som varit med om traumatiska händelser och kunskap om olika kulturer.
Slutsats: Detta arbete kan ge en ökad medvetenhet kring skolsköterskors utmaningar i arbetet med nyanlända elever. Professionen skulle kunna stärkas genom möjlighet till utbildning i kulturkompetens och kunskaper kring barn som varit med om traumatiska händelser i samband med migration. Skolsköterskorna efterfrågar tydligare rutiner och ökat samarbete med andra instanser som t.ex. barn- och ungdomspsykiatrin och mottagningsenhet.

Background: The past years an increasing number of newly arrived pupils have entered school. Most of the pupils are refugees or relatives to refugees. The increasing number of newly arrived has affected the work of the school nurse
Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate school nurses experience in the work with newly arrived pupils.
Method: Qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine school nurses in southern Sweden. The chosen analysis method was qualitative content analysis.
Results: Three overall categories summarized the data; 1) From reception to school health program 2) Working with an exposed group 3) Working with pupils from different cultures and languages. The reception of newly arrived pupils were resource-intensive mainly due to the fact that the pupils had not followed the child healthcare program and were inadequately vaccinated. The school nurses experienced that their work went beyond the professional role when they took care of the different needs of the newly arrived pupils. The school nurses also experienced lack of competence in the work with pupils who have had traumatic experiences and lack of knowledge about different cultures.
Conclusion: This research gives increased awareness of the school nurses challenges in the work with newly arrived pupils. The profession could be strengthened through the opportunity of education in cultural competence and knowledge about working with children who have had traumatic experiences in connection with migration. School nurses request clearer routines and increased cooperation with other actors such as child psychiatry and reception units.
