Arbetets ansats är öka förståelsen för vad svenska ungdomar möter när de råkat ut för en allvarlig händelse och söker professionell hjälp. Arbetet berör juridisk bakgrund, det sociala arbetets organisation och närvarande faktorer i mötet mellan socialarbetare och klient. Vidare berörs hur individen påverkas av att möta socialarbetare utifrån symbolisk interaktionism och stämplingsteorin. Genom en enkätundersökning undersöks hur stor svenska ungdomars kännedom om tystnadsplikt och anmälningsplikt är och om det finns könsskillnader i denna medvetenhet. Enkätundersökningen utgår framförallt ifrån svensk stad med cirka 30.000 invånare i kommunen. En central fråga i arbetet är om det finns ungdomar som upplevt anmälningsplikten som ett hinder för att söka professionell hjälp. The attempt of the essay is to increase the understanding for what Swedish youth come across when they seek professional help after having been faced with a serious incident. The essay also touches upon juridicial background, the organization of the social work, and the present elements in the encounter between social worker and client. Further it is discussed how the individual is affected by the meeting of the social worker out of symbolic interactionism and labelling theory. A opinion poll investigates the extent of knowledge of the Swedish youth in regard to professional secrecy and the obligation to report and whether there are gender differences in this awareness. The results of the survey mainly comes from a Swedish town with a population of about 30 000 in the district. A central question is if there are youth who have experienced the obligation to report as an obstruction for seeking professional help.
