Den här undersökningen utforskar och berättar hur fjorton socialsekreterare som arbetar med ekonomiskt bistånd ser på det arbete som de utför. Undersökningen utgår från fyra fokuserade gruppintervjuer, vid vilka avsikten har varit att fånga socialsekreterarnas upplevelser av arbetet. Dessa upplevelser har sedan konkretiserats och förklarats med hjälp av ett regenerativt perspektiv på arbete samt ett sociologiskt perspektiv på hantering av emotioner i arbetslivet. Ekonomiskt bistånd är ett område inom det sociala arbetet som ryktas om inte vara socialt samt att enbart handla om pengar och siffror. Arbetet präglas dessutom av en hög personalomsättning, en stor del administrativt arbete och en hög arbetsbelastning. Min avsikt har varit att undersöka vad som gör att socialsekreterarna, trots dessa negativa aspekter, fortsätter att arbeta med ekonomiskt bistånd och vad de anser vara viktigt på arbetsplatsen. En annan del av undersökningen har varit att ta reda på vad socialsekreterarna upplever arbetet ge samt ta. Resultaten visar på att socialsekreterarna har en komplex syn på det arbete som de utför. Utmärkande är att de anser arbetet vara viktigt, socialt och meningsfullt. Socialsekreterarna listar sina kollegor, arbetets utformning och ledningen som de största anledningarna till att de fortsätter att arbeta med ekonomiskt bistånd. Samtidigt är det även dessa aspekter, eller snarare förändringar i dessa aspekter, som skulle få dem att ge upp arbetet.

This survey explores and explains what fourteen social workers that work with financial assistance think about the job they perform. The survey is based on four focus group interviews where the intention has been to capture the social workers experiences. These experiences have then been clarified and explained by a regenerative perspective on work and a sociological perspective on managing emotions in working life. Financial assistance is an area of social work that is rooted in rumors about the work not being social and therefore only about money and numbers. The work is also characterized by high staff turnover, a lot of administrative work and a high workload. My intention has been to investigate why the social workers, despite these negative aspects, continue to work with financial assistance and what they consider important at the workplace. Another part of the survey has been to find out what the social workers are experiencing the work give and take. The results of the investigation show that the social workers have a complex view of the job they perform. Most importantly they consider the work to be important, social and meaningful. The social workers list their colleagues, the design of the work and the management as the main reasons to why they continue to work with financial assistance. At the same time it is also these aspects, or rather changes in these aspects, that would make them give up the work.
