Bakgrund: Humor är ett fenomen som genom historien haft varierande betydelse för människan. Inom omvårdnaden har kunskapen om humor ökat de senaste de-cennierna och lyfts fram som ett socialt redskap i kommunikation och relation mellan sjuksköterska och vårdtagare. Hemsjukvården är en vårdform där det upp-står en tät kontakt mellan sjuksköterska och vårdtagare och där humorn därför är viktig att uppmärksamma. Syfte: Syftet med studien var att undersöka sjukskö-terskans upplevelse av förutsättningar för humor och humorns betydelse i mötet med vårdtagare i hemsjukvården. Metod: Studien utfördes som en kvalitativ em-pirisk studie med datainsamling via semistrukturerade intervjuer. Totalt har åtta grundutbildade sjuksköterskor deltagit i studien, alla arbetande inom hemsjukvår-den i södra Sverige. Det insamlade materialet analyserades efter en latent inne-hållsanalysmodell av Burnard (1991), vilken modifierades av författarna. Resul-tat: Grunden i att använda humorn ligger i att kunna tyda signaler och läsa av si-tuationen. Kontinuitet i form av tid samt det samspel som utgör varje situation är också av betydelse för humorn. Humorn i mötet tycks även stödja kommunikatio-nen och relationen samt jämna ut skillnader och bidra till ett mänskligare möte. Humorn ger känslan av att göra något gott och ger arbetsglädje samtidigt som den upplevs möjliggöra livsglädje hos vårdtagaren. Slutsats: Humor påverkar mötet och kan tänkas vara ett viktigt hjälpmedel för att underlätta sjuksköterskans arbete inom hemsjukvården. Författarna vill med studien synliggöra humorn och öka medvetenheten om dess effekter även inom hälso- och sjukvården i stort.

Background: Humor is a phenomenon that through history has had varying de-grees of importance to humans. In healthcare, the knowledge of humor has in-creased in recent decades and has been highlighted as a social tool for communi-cation and relationships between nurses and patients. Home health care is a form of care where there is a close contact between nurses and patients and where the humor therefore is important to notice. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate nurses' experience of conditions for humor and the importance of hu-mor when encountering patients in home health care. Method: The study was conducted as a qualitative empirical study with data collection through semistruc-tured interviews. A total of eight nurses with a basic nursing degree participated in the study, all working in home health care in southern Sweden. The collected ma-terial was analyzed using a latent content analysis by Burnard (1991), which was modified by the authors. Results: The basics of using humor lies in the ability to interpret signals and read the situation. Continuity in terms of time and the inter-actions that form each situation are also of importance to the humor. The humor in the encounter also seems to support the communication and relationship as well as even out differences and contribute to a more human encounter. Humor gives the feeling of doing something good and gives work satisfaction. It also seems to give the patient a feeling of joy in life. Conclusion: Humor has an impact on the en-counter and may be an important tool to ease the nurse's work in home health care. With this study the authors wish to highlight humor and increase the aware-ness of its effects in health care in general.
