Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka upplevelsen av delaktighet i behandling, vård och omsorg för anhöriga och närstående till människor med psykiska funktionshinder, samt att klarlägga hur denna grupp erfar samarbetet med de professionella yrkesutövarna. Vi har enbart undersökt anhörigperspektivet och under processen har vi arbetat med metoder för grundad teori. Vi valde en kvalitativ ansats för vår forskning och utförde totalt sex intervjuer. Vårt resultat visar att sannolikheten för att anhöriga och närstående ska uppleva delaktighet i behandling, ökar med ett gott initialt bemötande ifrån de olika professionella företrädarna. Bemötandet och yrkesetiken är också essentiellt för att bevara en god relation under behandlingsprocessen och utgör en viktig ingress för anhörigas möjligheter att hantera sin vardag. Goda relationer mellan familjerna och de professionella kännetecknas ofta av ett kunskaps- och informationsutbyte vilket genererar en känsla av delaktighet. En av studiens slutsatser är att det kan finnas ett behov av en ny profession inom socialtjänsten. I Skandinavien utmärks socialt arbete traditionellt av casework, ett slutet samarbete mellan den enskilde medborgaren och den professionelle. Den nya professionen skulle istället fungera som en juridisk vägledare och ombud för alla familjemedlemmar i deras relationer till myndigheter och vårdgivare – en funktion som än idag lyser med sin frånvaro.

The aim of this essay is to examine the experiences of participation for families and next of kin with relations in the Swedish mental health care system. The study also includes the experiences of interactions with the medical professionals. Our focus has therefore solely been on the family members' point of view and not on the individual with mental issues or the professional establishment. To carry out this essay we have chosen a qualitative approach and have conducted a total of six interviews. Furthermore, the data gathered has been processed using Grounded Theory. The results show that the likelihood of families being involved in treatment increased with a good initial meeting with all the various professions that can be encountered in the treatment and support systems. Professional conduct is essential for preserving good ongoing relationships between the establishment and families and for the related parties ability to cope with their day to day lives. Good relationships between families and the medical professionals, with information flowing both ways, is therefore likely to generate a feeling of participation in the treatment process. One conclusion of the study is that there might be a need for a different kind of profession within the Swedish social work department. Social work in Scandinavia is traditionally associated with casework, a reserved joint work between one citizen and one professional representative. However, the new professional role would instead serve as a liaison between the families and the health care establishment – a function that to this day seems to be lacking.
