Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Tonåringars omvårdnadsbehov är på flera plan ett brett och utmanande arbete. Den inskrivna tiden kan för tonåringar påverkas på olika sätt genom individuell anpassning av vården. Upplevelsen av vården uppfattas olika av olika individer vilket gör kunskapen i detta än mer komplex. I detta har sjuksköterskor en stor roll i att främja tonåringars välmående under den inskrivna tiden. Syfte: Studiens syfte var att belysa sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av att vårda tonåringar inskrivna på vårdavdelning. Metod: 13 sjuksköterskor intervjuades på fyra sjukhus i södra Sverige och innehållet analyserades med en kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Resultat: Olika kategorier av sjuksköterskors erfarenheter togs fram. Att mötet med tonåringar kunde vara både problematiskt och roligt framfördes av sjuksköterskorna, där vikten av ett bra bemötande, anpassad kommunikation och en fungerande relation var delar som diskuterades. Två stora utmaningar sjuksköterskorna såg i sitt arbete med tonåringar var att kunna motivera dem och att bedöma deras mående. Sjuksköterskornas erfarenheter om tonåringars situation på sjukhus lyftes också fram och innefattade erfarenheter om bland annat utveckling, integritet och föräldrars närvaro. Där tonåringars individuella utveckling ledde till frågor och funderingar avseende mognadsnivå. Till sist reflekterades sjuksköterskors syn på vårdmiljöns betydelse för tonåringars upplevelse av vårdtiden. Slutsats: Genom en större mängd forskning avseende sjuksköterskors erfarenheter i vården av tonåringar kan omvårdnaden av tonåringar i framtiden troligen bli ännu bättre. Ju fler sjuksköterskor som får komma till tals desto större blir kunskapsbasen för en anpassad och välfungerande evidensbaserad omvårdnad.

Abstract [en]

Background: Adolescents' need for care are on many levels a broad and challenging field of work. The admission time for adolescents can be affected in different ways by individual adaptation of the care. The experience of care is perceived differently by different individuals, which makes the knowledge in this even more complex. In this, nurses have a major role in promoting adolescents' well-being during the admitted period. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to highlight the nurses' experiences of caring for adolescents admitted in care wards. Method: 13 nurses were interviewed at four hospitals in southern Sweden and the content was analysed with a qualitative content analysis. Results: Various categories of nurses' experiences were discussed. The nurses expressed that the meetings with the adolescents could be both problematic and fun. The importance of being met in a good way, an adapted communication and a positive relation were parts that were discussed. Two major challenges the nurses saw in their work with adolescents was being able to motivate them and to assess their wellbeing. The nurses' experiences of adolescents' situation in hospitals were also highlighted and included experiences on, among other things, development, integrity and parents' presence. Where adolecents´ individual development led to questions concerning the level of maturity. Finally, nurses' views on the importance of the healthcare environment for adolescents' experience of care time was reflected. Conclusion: Through a greater amount of research on nurses' experiences in the care of adolescents, this is likely to be further improved in the future. To achieve a greater knowledge-base for a well-adapted and well-functioning evidence-based hospital care, it is vital that more nurses are heard.
