Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate the experience of parallel cybersex contacts among people living with a partner. Interviews were conducted with six informants who lived in a partner relationship while having sexual contact with others online. Content analysis identified three main themes: parallel cybersex contacts, the internet as a format and sexual arena, as well as presentation and exploration. The empirics show benefits and costs of cybersex to the relationship with the committed partner, identification of distinctive qualities of the Internet as a context for sexual experience, and the perception of cybersex as a platform for experimentation and exploration of sexual identity and sexual activities. The findings of the study indicate that the informants felt that the cybersex contacts satisfied sexual desires that the informants did not feel were satisfied within the partner relationship.
