Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to examine how aid administrators experience the meeting with elderly people with cognitive impairment regarding problems and opportunities to obtain consent. The study is based on a qualitative approach and by interviewing six aid administrators, the aim is to get a deeper understanding of their work with elderly people with cognitive impairment. The interviews were analyzed with selected theoretical perspectives about the theory of street level bureaucracy and how aid administrators work with the framework of law, guidelines and regulations as well as the ethical dilemmas that may encounter between their personal and professional self to fulfil their clients’ needs. The study also presents previous research on the field. The result shows that the interviewed aid administrators experience the meetings with elderly with cognitive impairment as challenging but instructive, various and rewarding. They tell about some of the dilemmas that arise during their work with elderly with cognitive impairment and how they handle these situations. Just like every elderly is a unique individual, aid administrators have individual strategies to handle emerging problems and opportunities in their daily work.
