Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Themed interviews have been conducted to explore and understand whether the deaf adult people who have undergone a CI-operation have observed any changes in their identity experiences after their hearing has improved. The qualitative study is based on the individual's own experiences of the cochlear implant (CI). The number of people having a cochlear implant are increasing. The study highlights the personal stories and experiences of the CI bringing back their hearing ability. These stories are very important because they provides us with knowledge about the support these people needs through their rehabilitation, a kind of knowledge that is still largely lacking. The results showed that personal identity is the same but it may be the social identity, which can be problematic in some aspects to write a role that does not confirm to their own self-image.
