Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Abstract The aim of this study is to investigate how integration work has evolved over time. In this study, four interviews have been conducted with two special educators and two principals from different schools and municipalities. These respondents describe their perceptions and experiences regarding integration work, by talking about how this work is carried out in their schools. To analyze the material, the cooperation perspective and the theory of the near development zone have been applied. The results show that the level of integration work vary widely between respondents' schools. There are schools that have a local integration, with a social integration just started. These differences are due, among other factors, to insufficient cooperation and cooperation skills in both school forms, as well as the willingness of those involved. The study also discusses the pros and cons of integration, as well as possibilities and obstacles to integration. Respondents' responses varied around their perceptions of the concept of integration, where some perceived it as positive while others as negative. Keywords: pupils in need of special support, elementary school, integration, inclusion, barriers, opportunities, advantages, disadvantages, cooperation.
