ABSTRAKT Syftet med denna studie har varit att belysa vuxna syskon till personer med funktionsnedsättning upplevelse och erfarenheter av att växa upp med syskon med funktionsnedsättningar. Syftet har även varit att belysa ansvarstagandet för dessa syskon under olika perioder i livet. I denna studie har intervjuer skett med tre vuxna syskon till personer med funktionsnedsättningar. Dessa syskon till personer med funktionsnedsättningar redogör för hur det minns sin uppväxt och hur det ser på det nu som vuxna. Det redogör även ansvarstagandet under olika perioder i livet. För att analysera empirin har Thomas Scheffs teori om skam, stolthet och sociala band samt livsloppsperspektivet tillämpats. Resultaten är att minnena från barndomen är mestadels positiva. Det visar på starka familjeband just på grund av syskonet med funktionsnedsättning. Gällande ansvarstagandet så var den olika hög beroende på vilket stadie man befunnit sig i livet. Det fanns dock ingen tvekan att samtliga skulle ta hand om syskonet med funktionsnedsättning om behovet uppstod när föräldrarna inte längre är kan. Mammans inställning och roll är central för ovanstående och detta belystes av samtliga intervjupersoner samt något upplystes av tidigare forskning.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to display the feelings of adult siblings of people with disabilities and experience of growing up with a sibling with disabilities. The aim was also to shed light on the responsibility for these siblings in different periods of life. In this study, interviews have taken place with three adult siblings of people with disabilities. These siblings of people with disabilities explain how they remember their childhood and how they look on it now as adults. It also outlines the responsibility in different periods of life. To analyze the empirical material Thomas Scheff's theory of shame, pride and social bonds and life course have been applied. The results are that the memories from childhood are mostly positive. It shows the strong family bonds because of the sibling with a disability. The responsibility showed to be varying depending on the stage they had been in life. There was however no doubt that all would take care of the siblings with disability if the need arose when the parents no longer are able to. The mother's attitude and role is central on the subject above, and all respondents highlighted this and that is something that previous research shed light on.
