Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose behind this study is to contribute to the discussion regarding sustainable urban development within the city of Malmö, Sweden. Principally through illustrating the conflicts between the three different dimensions of sustainability: ecological-, social-, and economic sustainability. The focus of the study is the area of Augustenborg in southern Malmö, where the municipal together with the municipal housing company MKB executed major renovations to make the area more sustainable and attractive. Through qualitative interviews with the people of Augustenborg this study aims to analyse experiences and opinions of individual respondents to understand how successful the improvements in the area have been, seen from a holistic perspective on sustainability. The results from this study show some evidence of social- and ecological sustainability competing for the same economic resources within the boundaries of urban development in Malmö. The results also point towards that the renovations in the area have contributed to gentrification, through decreased affinity and increased segregation.
