This study covers the complexity of norms with inherent patriarchal ideas in relation to sexual offenses- especially in the case of rape-, from the feminist perspective that these have a negative impact on women and their basic rights. Through a critical discourse analysis, I investigate different legal cases before and after the reformation of the Swedish sexual violation act from 2005, in order to track how it got transformed. The aim of the survey is to develop such knowledge that provides a broader insight into the shortcomings that interact in these unique contexts, where women become potential victims in a double sense as they are already subordinated at several levels of society to begin with. Thus, it can be assumed that norms flourishing within the framework of criminal law, not only violates the rights of women, but as an institution of power, confirms its eligibility which ultimately ensures a normalization with devastating consequences for women’s psychical and mental health. I find that the implementation is successful in terms of increased norm criticism while at the same time deficiencies and tensions at different sides and edges, calls for a modernized approach in which injustices are exposed as far as possible, so that women's rights are respected and fulfilled not only through language but in reality.
