Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka hur området vid Malmös nordöstra infart hade kunnat se ut idag enligt ett tidigare förslag samt om detta alternativ i högre grad motsvarat Malmö stads mål för en hållbar stadsutveckling än vad området Stadens entré gör idag. Studien behandlar köpcentret Entré och dess omkringliggande område vilket har fått namnet Stadens entré. Studien baseras på kontrafaktisk metod och vilar på en jämförelse av två olika fallstudier, ett faktiskt fall och ett hypotetiskt fall, det vill säga hur Stadens entré ser ut idag jämfört med planerna på ett tidigare förslag för samma område. De båda fallen sätts sedan i relation till de hållbarhetsaspekter som Malmö stad eftersträvar i sin översiktsplan 2012 för att se hur väl de två förslagen motsvarar Malmö stads vision om en hållbar stadsutveckling. Resultatet av vår studie visar att området Stadens entré idag i lägre grad motsvarar Malmö stads hållbarhetsmål än vad det tidigare förslaget Stadsbrynet hade gjort.

The aim of this thesis is to explore how the surrounding area of the northeast entrance of Malmoe would have looked today according to a previous proposal. We would like to investigate if this option corresponds better than The Entrance of the City does today in terms of sustainable urban design and the type of development that the city of Malmoe strives for. This study is concentrated to the shopping center named Entré and its surrounding area named The Entrance of the City. The study is based on a counterfactual approach and rests on a comparison of two different case studies, an actual case and a hypothetical case. The actual case is about how The Entrance of the City looks like today and is compared with the hypothetical case which consists of a previous proposal. The two cases are then compared to The City of Malmoe’s vision from 2012 to create a sustainable city. The result of the study shows that the existing version of The Entrance of the City to a lesser extent corresponds to the sustainable goals of The City of Malmoe, than the previous proposal Stadsbrynet would have done.
