Afro-Colombian women occupy the most marginalized location within the Colombian society. Despite their marginalized location within the society, they have a central and vital role in Afro-Colombian social movement. Afro-Colombian women human rights defenders are mutually working towards enhancing their own situation and their community’s situation within the larger Colombian society. However, they lack recognition and are constantly subjected to horrendous human rights violations. Aim of this thesis is to recognize some of the reason behind the violations of Afro-Colombian women human rights defenders. This is accomplished by a case study method and postcolonial feminist theory as theoretical framework.
