Mansrollen under konstruktion - en studie om migration och förändrade maskuliniteter

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to explore how migration can change and affect Iraqi men's identity processes as men and Iraqis, focusing on masculinity, disidentification, identification and othering processes. I have conducted longer interviews with three Iraqi men and focused on their experiences as “men in migration”. The result indicates that the interviewees seek to be included in a Swedish equality discourse, and that they clearly distance themselves from a construction of hegemonic masculinity that constituted an ideal in an Iraqi context. Furthermore, my study shows that the interviewees largely reflect on how people surrounding them perceive them as men, and that they all have developed different strategies to avoid being identified as "immigrant men".
