Abstract [en]

This study aims to examine factors that can explain the low level of participation in elections among the disabled community in two daily activities in Malmö. The study will further look to investigate the extent to which organization related staffs are involved in increasing the accessibility for their care recipients to participate in elections. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, interviews have been conducted with both staff and care recipients of selected organizations. Interview responses have been combined with Verba, Schlozman and Brady's model: the civic voluntarism model, which aims to explain the reason why people do not vote. In summary, the results show that factors such as lack of knowledge, support and resources are some of the major causes effecting participation among the disabled community in the two daily activities in Malmö. This can further be explained through the lack of assistance made by organization to enable care recipients to participate in the election.
