The purpose of SFI, Swedish for immigrants, is to provide adult immigrants with sufficient language skills and competence to be able to integrate in the Swedish community. The purpose is also to be able to strengthen their position in their working- as well as their social life. Furthermore, the education aims to promote the individual's personal development and both support and stimulate the learning of individuals. In addition, SFI aims to enable further education. However, since the regular SFI lacked the opportunity to offer individuals on parental leave further studies, the problem came to be that parental leave led to interrupted studies, which then lead to interruption of the integrational process. The purpose of this study is to deepen the understanding of whether SFI for individuals on parental leave can be a long- term measure that promotes the integration of this group. Based on a qualitative survey method, interviews have been conducted with the project manager/teacher and five students. The conclusion of this study is that SFI for parental leave contributes to promoting the integration of these individuals by offering them the opportunity to study the Swedish language, and thus continue its integrational process. Furthermore, the study's results show that this type of activity can act as a long-term measure.
