Vi befinner oss i en övergångsperiod där processer blir allt mer digitaliserade som en följd av tekniska framsteg, och att samhället förändras. Användningen av den nya tekniken skapar nya förutsättningar och har öppnat nya möjligheter i alla branscher, men har också introducerat oss för en ny bransch, IT-branschen. Branschens innovationer hämmas dock av bristen på kvinnor. Emellertid har tidigare forskning inte lyft fram perspektivet som belyser kvinnorna som faktiskt väljer att arbeta med IT. Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka kvinnor som kommit in i och stannat i branschen och härigenom ge en beskrivning både av fältet och hur kvinnor kan ta sig fram i det. För att undersöka detta genomförde vi djupintervjuer med tre olika kvinnor med olika karriär, yrkesroll och bakgrund, för att belysa de faktorer som har motiverat dem till deras karriärval. Baserat på vår undersökning kan man dra slutsatsen att bland annat ett tekniskt intresse och ett starkt behov av självförverkligande var gemensamt för de intervjuade kvinnorna. Syftet med studien är dock inte att visa på några generella slutsatser, även om resultat kan visa en viss generalitet. Diskussionen bygger på det faktum att kvinnor är en nödvändig resurs för att branschen ska fortsätta att utvecklas till dess fulla potential.

We are a transitional period where processes are becoming increasingly digitized, as a series of technical frameworks and societal change. The use of the new technology creates new conditions and has opened up for new opportunities in all industries, but has also introduced us to a new industry, the IT industry. However, the industry's innovations are hampered by a lack of women. Previous research has failed to raise the perspective that sheds light on the women who choose to work with IT. The purpose of this study is to investigate women who have entered and stayed in the industry and thereby give a description of both the field and how women can progress in it. To investigate this, we conducted in-depth interviews with three different women, with different career, professional role and background, in order to shed light on the factors that have motivated them for their career choices. Based on our survey, it can be concluded that, among other things, a technical interest and a strong need for self-realization were common to the interviewed women. However, the purpose of the study is not to demonstrate any general conclusions, although our results may demonstrate a certain generality. The discussion is based on the fact that women are a necessary resource for the industry to continue to develop to its full potential.
