Inför höstterminen 2015 flyttade samtliga lärare, tidigare stationerade på Malmö Högskolas lokaler Kranen, till de nybyggda lokalerna på Niagara. Till följd av flytten arbetar numera lärarna i stängda kontorslandskap och har således inte längre möjlighet att motta studenter till sina kontor, så som tidigare var möjligt för lärare och studenter vid avdelningen för Medieteknik. Studenterna måste numera besöka lärarna under besökstid som hålls en gång i veckan, och således går den spontana kontakten (bortsett från den som sker vid och i anslutning till undervisningstillfällen) mellan lärare och studenter på Medieteknik förlorad. Som följd av den förändrade situationen torde elektronisk kommunikation i framtiden utgöra en allt viktigare komponent i kommunikationen mellan lärare och studenter vid Medieteknik. Denna studie undersöker var kommunikationen sker mellan lärare och studenter, samt studenter emellan på avdelningen för Medieteknik. Studien syftar till att undersöka var, hur och när kommunikation sker mellan lärare och studenter, samt studenter emellan. Genom kvalitativa och kvantitativa undersökningar kunde undersökningen konstatera att den elektroniska kommunikation mellan studenter syntes ske i Facebookgrupper som studenterna själva anordnar. Den elektroniska kommunikationen mellan lärare och studenter syntes ske främst via mail. För att säkerställa upplevelsen av den elektroniska kommunikationen på Medieteknik krävs vidare forskning i ämnet.

Situation analysis of the Electronic Communication at the department of Media Technology and product development. During the fall semester of 2015 the department of Media Technology was moved in to new facilities at the newly built university complex Niagara. Due to the move and settlement in new closed offices, as opposed to the former open landscapes, the students would no longer have access to the faculty offices, therefore the spontaneous communication was lost. The result of this closed office landscape, the students now had to visit their teachers at scheduled hours, ordinarily pre-booked through e-mails or other sorts of electronic communication. Because of the new situation, the author of this report assumed that electronic communication might be a more important way communicate between students and teachers, as well as between students. The purpose of this study is to identify how and where the electronic communication is performed, at the department of Media Technology. After both qualitative and quantitative research had been done, the study showed that the teachers mainly communicate with their students through e-mail correspondence and the students mainly use Facebook groups to contact and maintain contact with each other.
