Abstract [sv]

Totalt 440 mätningar, 220 i varje grupp. Conclusions: Within the limitations of this in vitro study, the following conclusions can be drawn:  Marginal and internal gaps of FDPs fabricated from digital impression technique showed significantly higher accuracy and precision than the corresponding points measured in FDPs fabricated from conventional impression technique. The formulated null hypothesis was rejected.  fabricated from digital impressions had a higher number of marginal gaps equal to or less than the stated clinical accepted value of 120 μm.

Abstract [en]

Objectives: To examine if the digital impression technique is as accurate and precise as the conventional impression technique when measuring the internal and marginal gaps of 3-unit fixed dental Methods prostheses (FDPs) milled in zirconia with two different measurement methods. Twenty 3-unit FDPs, milled in zirconia, were produced from ten conventional impressions with vinyl-polysiloxane (ImprintTM 4 Super Quick ultra light) and ten from digital impressions (3Shape, Trios). Each FDP was tested on the master model using a silicone material specially designed for fit-check. A jig was used to section the replicas. The internal and marginal fit was measured at 11 predefined points. A total of 440 measurements, 220 in each group. Measurements were statistically analyzed and compared with a two-tailed t-test and Fisher’s exact test. Results: Results show significant differences between the impression techniques. The digital technique shows significant less marginal and internal gaps in all points measured except M10 and M11. Standard deviation presents less deviation for the digital technique except at the occlusal points. The digital impression technique showed higher number of measurements equal to or better than the accepted clinical value of 120μm in comparison to the conventional impression technique. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this in vitro study, the following conclusions can be drawn:  Marginal and internal gaps of FDPs fabricated from digital impression technique showed significantly higher accuracy and precision than the corresponding points measured in FDPs fabricated from conventional impression technique. The formulated null hypothesis was rejected.  fabricated from digital impressions had a higher number of marginal gaps equal FDPs to or less than the stated clinical accepted value of 120 μm.
