How may it be that high-tech unit in a hospital, which all departments depend on to function, have been dismissed, invisible and ignored for several years? I have approached this in a single case study in HSO setting, through the concept of ostracism. Ostracism is a term, sometimes referred to as a social death penalty, and is considered a general process of rejection, ignorance and exclusion. In this study I´m exploring a single case that has had problems for years of bullying and harassment. I will present the initial findings were one process of ostracism is identified on grouplevel in a unit within a surgerydepartment. Four organizational antecedents has been identified as context for this process; Instability of group identity, lack of leadership, invisible low-rank unit and organizational structure. The result will be discussed in relation to social identity theory.
